University of Nebraska - Lincoln Quilt House Addition

The Quilt House project comprised of a 13,200 SF building addition and new generator and chiller. The International Quilt Study Center & Museum is located on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's East Campus and houses the largest publicly held quilt collection in the world. The addition to this building included a new gallery, additional collection storage space and extra mechanical equipment to maintain the perfect environment for display and preservation of the quilts.

The small site presented a variety of challenges with construction planning and staging. The study center and museum stayed open throughout the project and indoor climate conditions were not disturbed. The building's structure consisted of load bearing masonry walls and concrete slabs on structural steel decking. The brick facade features a unique pattern to mimic that of a quilt pattern.
