17th & R Parking Garage

The 17th and R mixed use project was completed for students and faculty at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. It includes retail space in addition to the parking garage. This structure was awarded the “International Parking Award of Excellence” by the International Parking Institute for its efficient design and method of construction. Standing six stories high, this structure contains 20,000 SF of retail and a total of 1,715 parking stalls. The garage was built using cast-in-place post-tensioned concrete with a brick facade.

The project covered an entire city block and was a “zero-lot-line” building, meaning the structure itself is near the edge of the property lines. The post-tension design allowed for smaller beams and less conventional reinforcing, yet offered an alternate construction method that was the best fit for this project. The post-tension method also allowed for a fast-tracked schedule.
