Lancaster County Adult Detention Facility

The Lancaster County Adult Detention Facility was completed in December 2012. This project was commissioned by the Lancaster County Department of Corrections to replace the overcrowded county jail. Our team also built a 25,000 SF thermal energy plant located on the same site as the Lancaster County Adult Detention Facility.

The new facility is 288,900 SF and twice the size of the previous county jail. It provides additional housing for 786 inmates with the potential to expand to 1,000 beds. A mixture of dormitory-style units for minimum and maximum security and housing for special management offers flexibility based on population needs. The mechanical systems include a geothermal heat pump for heating and cooling and backup power for the facility. This system will save the detention facility 20 to 30 percent in energy costs each year. During the GMP phase, the bid climate was lower than estimated based on the cost data our team had collected, which allowed for the addition of a 112-bed pod alternate to be added to the base bid while still keeping the project under budget.
