Kearney High School

After 70 years in the old Kearney High School, staff and students now reside in a new 340,000 SF building. The structure is a combination of architectural precast concrete, steel frame structure and load bearing masonry construction. The performing arts center was finished with comfort, appearance and functionality in mind. It seats 1,005, provides the capability to have hundreds of light sequences pre-programmed and can be transformed from a theater to a concert hall with minimal effort. The library is filled with natural light and LED fixtures to help maintain lighting throughout the day. Technology is integrated throughout the space and conference rooms and meeting spaces were added to provide a collaborative learning environment. Regulation size football and soccer fields were installed and designed to be kept free of dust and debris with a drainage sub-base. A press box , fabricated off-site, was installed on an elevated plaza deck 14’ above the track and concessions and restrooms are located in the 10,000 SF commons area overlooking the field where nearly 2,500 spectators can be seated. An impermeable surface coating, striping and other infrastructure were installed to accommodate high school and university track and field events. The track includes four long jump pits, four pole vault runways, four large throwing cages and three practice football fields. Other major spaces in the high school include academic areas, industrial technology, art, a main competition gymnasium, a pool and commons area. The additional space now provides opportunities for the school to bring in career focused classes and activities.
