Northeastern Junior College E.S. French Hall Renovation

Located on Northeastern Junior College campus, the two story E.S. French Hall was originally built in 1965 and features offices, classrooms, an interior courtyard, theater, art gallery and art studios. This project consisted of a complete renovation of the interior to include technology improvements such as Smart Boards and projectors, new energy-efficient windows and micropile piers to help support the loads for the new Air Handling Units. Existing offices and classrooms received new carpeting, ceilings, light fixtures and paint. A portion of the existing gallery and second floor classrooms were repurposed to allow for ten additional staff offices. All existing bathrooms received ADA upgrades, new floor and wall tile, partitions and plumbing fixtures. Theater upgrades included new stage equipment, audio/video equipment, lighting and theater seats in addition to curved wood clouds for acoustics.

The open courtyard was filled in, enclosed and extended approximately twelve feet above the second floor roof. The upper perimeter is wrapped in windows to allow natural sunlight into the open space, which is meant to serve as an area for students to gather, study and socialize.
